Inspiration

The need to create has driven my exploration into many mediums over the years before I rediscovered clay. My vessels are a physical manifestation of how I see the world and the possibilities it embodies. The play of light off an object, a fold in someone’s clothing, the spiraling of a leaf, the curve of a bird’s beak, all capture my imagination with possibilities and flow into each vessel I create

Process

My work dances gracefully between elegant and organic. Porcelain's purity and fine structure allow me to imbue each piece with a fluidity in form and color that stretches the imagination and beckons to be held.

Each vessel starts as a thin slab of clay, or a wheel thrown bowl. Once I define the basic shape, the clay is stretched, folded and coaxed using water and patience. This process gives the final form a sense of freedom and movement. The vessels are refined using carving tools to give "air" to the final form. Up to seven different glazes are sprayed in layers to enhance the sense of movement. Because of the way I work and the unpredictability inherent in the firing process, each vessel is a unique piece of art.
